THE CHINESE NEW YEAR - 2007 THE YEAR OF THE PIG

What did the Chinese students do on the new year day?

“I ate the food that my mother cooked. It was spicy. I loved it because it is good. My father and my mother didn’t work for one day.” Shan.

“On the Chinese new year, I went to the movies to watch a Chinese film. In the evening, my parents, my aunts, my uncles and I had dinner in a restaurant in Belleville.” Ming Ming.

“On Sunday, my sister and I went shopping. I bought a black skirt : it is beautiful. My sister bought a white t-shirt. Later we went to the cinema to watch a Chinese film in the evening. We went home.” Ling Ling

“In China the new year was on February the 18th. My mother, my sister and I watched TV. We sang and had dinner. The next day, we went at my aunt’s: she gave my sister and I a red envelope with money in it. It is a tradition in China. In the evening we went home.” Meng Ru.

“ I went to the countryside with my brother. We ate in a restaurant. A lot of people danced. They sang very well. It was lively. We ate dumplings and spring rolls with lettuce. I liked dancing and singing.” Jing.

“I was unlucky. I had a stomach ache as if I had eaten something bad. My mother asked me if I needed a doctor. I said I didn’t. I felt a bit better but then I went to bed.” Jie Ru.

THE CHILDREN'S DAY

The children’s day is celebrated all over China by pupils under 12. On that day we go to school but we don’t have lessons. We participate to activities like fishing. We fish wooden fish and we must be as quick as we can. If you are the first you can win a peach and eat it.
We can also play another game. For example, someone draws a circle on the blackboard which represents a face and someone else comes with his or her eyes closed and must draw the rest of the face : the eyebrows, the eyes, the nose, the mouth and the ears. It’s funny because we often draw outside the circle. We can also put about ten candles on a line and try to blow them all at the same time. We have sweets and crisps and we drink Xing Mu which is a Chinese beverage like coca cola.
It’s a wonderful day when we are children.

FFL - The Chinese new year.

"The Chinese new year will take place on January the 29th. This year is the year of the dog. We don’t know if it is celebrated all over China but we always have a week off.
On that day, children receive money in a red enveloppe. They receive 500 RMB in each enveloppe that is to say about 50 euro.
All the shops are closed. We all have a special meal with our family. It’s a great day : we can shoot off firecrackers all day long and there is a parade.
We have never seen the Chinese parade here in Paris and we don’t know if we will go and see it."

Where to go and see a parade ?

In the 3rd district :
On January 29th,
starting from la place de l’hôtel de Ville
at 14.30.

In the 13th district :
On February 5th,
starting from 66 avenue d’ivry
at 13.30.

Some of the students’ resolutions.

I will lose weight.
I will be lively.
I will be nice.
I will learn French.

I won’t have people shouting at me.
I won’t have bad marks.
I won’t go to P.E !
I won’t be late anymore.

What are dogs like?

Dogs are supposed to be honest, faithful, reliable and nosy.
But they can also be anxious, introverted, pessimistic and cynical.

French as a foreign language - les nouveaux arrivants

Here is a text written by my students to introduce their form.

« There are nine students in this group : three girls and six boys. We are from 13 to 15 years old. We all come from Wenzhou, a city in the south east of China. Some students have been in France for seven months up to a year. We all improved our French but it is difficult : there are many grammar rules to learn and reading isn’t easy.
Most of us think French is more difficult than English. Some of us never studied English and others have studied it for two or five years in China.
We like this school because the teachers are great and they help us to learn better. There are more students in Chinese forms from about 30 to 50 students. We used to work from Monday to Saturday until 11.30 and study 10 hours a day ! We have the feeling we are on holidays here ! »
